My Email to Steve Harvey

Dear Mr. Harvey, My name is Alok Malhotra and I am employed with Desjardins who is a Top 3 insurance company in Canada based on market share. I recently gradually returned back to work after suffering a traumatic injury which caused me to be on sick leave for almost 6 months. You’re probably wondering what this has to do with you so let me explain. You see, I returned after the New Year to a new company mantra and philosophy goal entitled “Become You”. Our individual goal for this year is to become the best version of ourself. We each will strive to get out of our comfort zone. No risk no reward. Don’t be afraid to fail. Fortune favours the bold. The biggest mistake you can make is being afraid to make one are all some of the takeaways from a recent presentation I watched. But the one that is most engrained in my mind is “get comfortable being uncomfortable” and that is where you come in. I saw a clip of the day you were going to quit. You were at your breaking point, living in your car for 3 years, no money and on the verge of calling your Mom and Dad asking if you could come home. But you knew you couldn’t go back home cause once you leave your Daddy’s house you gotta figure sh*t out. You were bathing in fancy hotel bathrooms like the Ritz Carlton which was anything but ideal. At your breaking point, just before you were about to call your Daddy you called the answering machine. You were being given a chance to be on TV which was always your dream but you had a problem, you only had $25, how were you going to get to New York. But wait, you had another message (BEEP), a glimmer of hope was waiting. You performed in Jacksonville, Florida back to back nights and took the $300 you earned and booked that flight from Jacksonville to New York, received a standing ovation for your Mike Tyson Eyeball Interview (mister big mouth calls Mike Tyson a sissy LOL!!! Still cracks me up still to this day every time I hear it) and the rest is history, you have been on TV ever since. I think it would be nothing less than epic if you could find even 30 minutes out of your busy schedule to speak to some of us here at Desjardins to light that fire I know we all have. As you simply put it we are all living in this bubble and we need to put more air in it. We got to expand ourselves by getting out of our comfort zone. If we stay in our comfort zone that is where we will fail. WE GOTTA GET COMFORTABLE BEING UNCOMFORTABLE. I know we all have the ability to put “extra” on top of ordinary. We all need to do the things that will get us in that category and again I feel your inspiration and your voice will not only light that fire but rekindle it for us. We all want to achieve the worthwhile. We must all be willing to go into unfamiliar territory. To let go of what we are used to. We know if anyone is unwilling to be uncomfortable, uneasy and insecure, they aren’t going to get very far. I am fully convinced that your voice and platform can get us all there. “A man who views the world the same at 50 as he did at 20 has wasted thirty years of his life” ~Muhammad Ali “This is the moment I accept that all challenging times will be behind me and in front of me” ~Kobe Bryant

 Yours Sincerely,
