My Email to Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson
Dear Mr. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson,
My name is Alok Malhotra and I am employed with Desjardins who is a Top 3 insurance company in Canada based on current market share. I recently gradually returned back to work after suffering a traumatic injury which caused me to be on sick leave for almost 6 months. You’re probably wondering what this has to do with you so let me explain. You see, I returned after the New Year to a new company mantra and philosophy goal entitled “Become You”. Our individual goal for this year is to become the best version of ourself. We each will strive to get out of our comfort zone. No risk no reward. Don’t be afraid to fail. Fortune favours the bold. The biggest mistake you can make is being afraid to make one are all some of the takeaways from a recent presentation I watched. But I couldn’t help myself constantly coming back to a personal area of improvement I’ve been working on over the last year or so and that is “consistency”. Your quote stating “success isn’t always about greatness. It’s about consistency. Consistent hard work leads to success. Greatness will come.” Has been a personal mantra for me, so much so that I have had it printed out for quite some time now and it sits right above my computer monitor behind a small action figure of yourself that I have always held close to me since my teenage years (see attached). I can’t help but think, if we as individuals can only find a way to master consistency, then naturally greatness will come and on a personal level, I will be able to achieve the overall goal which for now is to become the best version of “Alok” that I can be. You have also been a inspiration for not only myself but for millions of people around the world. Whether it has been your giving back through charity and “The Dwayne Johnson ROCK Foundation” or “The Beacon Experience”, speaking out on depression and mental health, telling a 4-year old that she inspired you, responding to a promposal with hundreds of free movie tickets or talking about the joy and privilege of being a supportive husband and father, one thing has always stayed constant, “consistency”. I’ve even found myself watching this video numerous times as quite frankly its pumps me up and makes me want to become my best right now (https://www.youtube.com/
I think it would be nothing less than epic if you could find even 30 minutes out of your busy schedule to speak to some of us here at Desjardins to light that fire I know we all have. We know there are no secrets to success therefore I’m willing to be the hardest worker in the room. We know that success isn’t always about greatness, It’s about consistency, consistent hard work leads to success, greatness will come so therefore I’m all-in. Like you with $7 bucks in your pocket you knew two things: you were broke as hell and one day you won’t be, therefore for that I’m instilling a “Mamba Mentality” (BE PASSIONATE, BE OBSESSIVE, BE RELENTLESS, BE RESILIENT, BE FEARLESS) mindset just like you. Like you I am going to use the hard times in the past to motivate me Today. Like you I show up to work and my goal has always been to outwork everyone and rely on my own two hands to get the job done. Like you the single most powerful thing you can be is to be yourself and for that the single most powerful thing I can be is to be myself all while becoming the best version. When you said “success at anything will always come down to this: focus and effort, and we control both” for that I am empowered. I will not be afraid to be ambitious about my goals because I know hard work never stops neither should my dreams. I will not need directions, I’m just going to point to the top and go. From you I know that success isn’t overnight, it’s when every day you get a little better than the day before, it all adds up. I am fully convinced that your voice and platform can get us “ALL” there for I am already on my way.
