“101 Simple Truths For A Better Life” Humble The Poet (26) “MONEY IS A FUNNY THING”

“A lot of people who don’t have money either worship it or downplay its value.  Some of those who do have it in abundance either take it for granted or use it as their scorecard to move ahead in life.”  The bottom line is this, money is a tool and resource.  We want resources, we need them.  But how much money or resources are enough?  Will we have enough to retire comfortably and pay off all our outstanding debts?  Each person will have a different answer to this question, and yes including me.  Money is what we make it and it is quite often been said that it is the root of all evil.  I always recall stories my dad used to tell me surrounding money, teaching me the value of it at bare minimum.  I remember him painting a scenario of winning the lottery and saying if that ever happened, don’t be alarmed and surprised when you start receiving random calls from family and friends who you have not spoken to in years.  Money makes people insane he would go on to say and I would just always shrug it off with the thought of ‘that would never happen to me’.  The reality is we all live beyond our means.  So called needs are actually luxuries if compared to how most of the world is living.  “There are families living on less than a dollar a day, and I read a story of a farmer in India who committed suicide because it would have taken him 90 years to pay back an outstanding loan of $300USD.”

“Never confuse greed and ambition; greedy folks want it without acknowledging or respecting the work that it takes to get it.”  Don’t let others dictate what money means or doesn’t mean to you, the relationship is yours and only yours.  Just be mindful at all times and really think about what is a need versus a want and at the end of the day how much potential debt you’re willing to accrue.

What does money mean to you?
